A new CDN network, EdgePrizm (www.edgeprizm.com), launched on May 1st, which stems from the acquisition of key Limelight Networks CDN assets, including hardware from 28 global PoPs, the original codebase, and the Layer0 intellectual property, later rebranded as Applications V7 under Edgio. EdgePrizm’s new network is purpose-built for application performance, transactional use cases, and gaming workloads, and steers clear of the high-cost models often associated with streaming CDNs. EdgePrizm is not targeting video streaming customers for live or VOD. EdgePrizm said that since acquiring the assets, the company has focused on streamlining and modernizing the platform, delivering a CDN product that emphasizes simplicity and affordability without compromising performance. The company informs me that it has customer traffic flowing across its network in North America and Europe, with additional expansion underway into Asia and South America. EdgePrizm is privately funded and led by a team of seasoned engineers, all of whom are former employees of Limelight Networks, bringing deep operational experience to the platform’s next chapter.
